How we deal with tree roots in drains and how to stop them returning
We follow the following process for removing tree roots in drains:
1. CCTV drain survey to find the cause of the issue
2. Root removal via water-powered root cutters (no digging needed)
3. Removal of the pipework ONLY in worst-case scenarios
4. Drain relining to provide a barrier to regrowth

To steer clear of the problem for good, we recommend a pre-purchase drain survey before buying a new home. Planting trees strategically (such as avoiding trees known for aggressive root growth and planting them away from pipework) will also help.
It’s also a good idea to regularly have your drains jetted, preventing water pooling and silt build-up.
Root ingress: why and how it affects your drains
Tree roots are naturally drawn to any water source as they extend through the ground. They’re not responsible for causing damage to pipes in the first instance. However, they will exploit any existing leaks by growing through the crack that is already there and continuing to grow within the pipe itself. This causes blockages, disrupts the flow of water and causes greater damage to the pipe.
We use tried and tested no-dig solutions to remove roots from drains, which include cutting, jetting and relining. Need our help for a blocked drain? Get in touch.
